Meet Amy Duncan: Momentum’s New General Counsel

We are excited to announce that our team is growing with a new addition to our Executive Team! It is our pleasure to introduce Amy Duncan, our new General Counsel who comes to us with much enthusiasm and experience in the Los Angeles legal world, having worked in litigation for 10 years and later as in house counsel for Cliffside Malibu, a substance use treatment facility. Get to know more about Amy’s background, what excites her about her new role, and what her favorite Podcast is.

Tell us about your background.

I am a native Californian and have spent most of my life in the Los Angeles area. I graduated from Chapman University School of Law in 2004. After law school, I had the great privilege of clerking for Judge John M. Roll in Tucson, Arizona for two years. When I returned to LA, I worked with a regional litigation firm that specialized in business and entertainment. I was a litigator for about 10 years when I decided I’d rather be in house counsel. Going in house meant I would be able to help a company avoid litigation, which I feel is a much better service than fighting the battle after the fact. I was General Counsel with Cliffside Malibu, a substance use treatment facility, for a little over three years. I loved being a part of a team providing care to people in need. Unfortunately, it was acquired by a larger provider and my role became redundant. I am excited to return to a behavioral health setting with Momentum for Health.

What excites you about Momentum and your new role?

I enjoy being a part of a team that is helping people in need. Although I won’t have direct contact with our clients, I am very happy to provide support to the team here so that we can all be as effective as possible.

Would you recommend your friends and family support Momentum? Why?

Absolutely. We are all a part of a community. The benefits of belonging to a community come with the responsibility to help that community be as healthy as it can be. The services Momentum provides are vital to the health of the community.

What is a book, show, or podcast you are currently reading, watching, or listening to?

My favorite podcast is Revisionist History. It describes itself as a journey through the overlooked and misunderstood. The episodes cover an amazingly broad spectrum of topics from the development of the United States’ air campaign in WWII to why Wilt Chamberlain wouldn’t shoot free throws “granny style” even though it raised his free throw percentage to a career high.
