Happy National Volunteer Week! Today, we’re highlighting an amazing Momentum volunteer, Marya.
Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and why volunteering is important to you?
Volunteering to me is important because it helps me build a community. Volunteering helps me to grow my skills whether they are my strongest or weakest.
What drew you specifically to volunteering at Momentum for Health?
What drew me to Momentum for Health were the types of volunteering available and the range of different programs.
How has volunteering at Momentum helped you develop new skills or strengthen existing ones?
Volunteering at Momentum has helped with my interpersonal communication skills, active listening, and problem-solving skills.
Is there a specific experience or interaction that has stayed with you throughout your time volunteering?
The HR department, where I currently volunteer, was very welcoming and understanding of my academic priorities. They were all very friendly! I love volunteering there and making connections with the HR team. These are connections I hope to keep for as long as I can.
Why do you think giving back is important?
I think it’s important to give back because what you put into the world is what you receive. In this way, you are making an impact in the world around you whether you know it or not.
