How Can I Become a First Aider?

Momentum is grateful for our community partnerships, which allow us to offer some trainings to the public at no cost. See the Upcoming Trainings tab below, which lists upcoming free trainings open to the public.

Please note that most public trainings consist of two parts: a 2-hour, self-paced virtual training and a 4-hour in-person training. To receive certification, participants must complete the virtual training at least one week prior to the in-person training. The in-person training includes a break for participants to get lunch on their own.

After the training, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize common signs and symptoms of mental health and substance use challenges
  • Understand how to interact with a person in crisis
  • Know how to connect a person with help
  • Use self-care tools and techniques

Mental health in the workplace affects employees’ emotional, psychological, and social well‑being—and directly influences morale, culture, and productivity.

Many companies aren’t equipped to address mental health or substance use challenges on their teams. An effective plan includes preparing staff to respond confidently and appropriately to urgent behavioral health issues.

A strong community partner can help your company respond to these challenges now and in the future. As one of Santa Clara County’s largest nonprofit mental health providers for more than 70 years, Momentum understands the needs of local employers. Our team can help you build a more resilient, supportive workplace.

We’ve provided training for adults, youth, and teens to school districts, restaurant groups, libraries, community centers, and more. Our experienced, professional staff members have worked with many different groups and know how to make participants feel comfortable and engaged.

Tap into our team’s expertise to invest in your company culture–fostering a healthy, mentally resilient, and informed workplace. Contact Kennya Rodriguez, Project Coordinator, to inquire about pricing and learn how Mental Health First Aid can support your organization: [email protected].
