Kalyani Shah

Momentum is thrilled to introduce our new Director of Quality Improvement, Kalyani Shah. Kalyani is an LCSW with a wealth of experience, having worked with children, adults, and families struggling with mental health conditions for 17 years in a variety of settings. We sat down with her to learn more about her background, what she’s excited about in this new role, and her favorite shows.

What excites you about Momentum and your new role?
I am excited to be a part of Momentum as it is a growing agency, and it has a range of services to offer to the community. In my role as the Quality Improvement Director, I look forward to using my experience from managing programs, providing clinical staff training, program development and quality management to ensure that we are meeting all regulations and are in compliance with all Federal, State and County standards. Moreover, I look forward to re-structuring the QI department to increase collaboration within the agency to provide more guidance and support to the staff.

Tell us about your background.
I have a total of 10 years of leadership experience in not-for-profit and for-profit organizations where I managed multiple departments, teams and sites to provide treatment and services to the people in need. In addition to my experience of working in programs, I also have experience in Quality Management and creating systems to meet protocols and regulations in multiple counties. Some key components of my work include working collaboratively on an interdisciplinary team, advocacy for staff and clients, being patient, open-minded and thinking creatively.

Some key accomplishments include providing clinical services, publishing an article called “Unaccompanied Youth” with the Pediatric Committee for the National Health Care for the Homeless Council, creating manuals to educate community based partners and clients on various topics of mental health issues, developing the protocols for an eating disorder program in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, creating a manual that included clinical and quality management tools for a therapeutic school based program and developing and providing clinical training to staff on documentation standards. My love for Social Work continues to grow as I hold a strong passion to help others and ensure that we provide the best treatment possible to the clients we serve.

What is a book, show, or podcast you are currently reading, watching, or listening to?
I am currently not reading or watching anything, but I love watching suspense and funny sit-coms. Two of my favorite shows are Law & Order and FBI.
